Why American Sports Fail pt.1 of 2

So over the last few weeks, with European Soccer coming to an end, i've had numerous discussions about why Europe, along with the rest of the world, is so obsessed with soccer and meanwhile in America, we're just not obsessed about any sports.

i found the solution

The American Way is about variety. instead of making one sport great, we decided to make 20 sports mediocre. take football for example. just in the last few years we've not only seen the NFL, but we've seen the XFL and Arena League, along with NFL Europa. but it doesn't end there. We've got MLBA, NBA, NBDL, NLL, NHL, MLS, NASCAR, PGA, and more.

Can you think of another country or continent that supports this many leagues at a professional level?

Then you might ask; How does having only one sport survive?

The last month or so has been filled with articles about NBA teams tanking the season so they can get a good draft pick. About halfway through the baseball season, teams could be mathematically eliminated from playoffs. Same with football.

So unless you're in the hunt for playoffs, you have no reason to play. Soccer leagues around the world have fixed this problem using multiple leagues of level and skill. Think Baseballs farm system.

not only can you move up to better divisions, but if you're in the bottom of a division, you'll get relegated to next lower division. If you're really good, and you're winning say, Englands top division, Premiership, than not only do you get the trophy for best team, but you get invited to play in the Champions League. The Champions Leagues is comprised of all the top teams from all the countries in Europe.

So in that model, the beloved Rockies would have been relegated to some Triple A baseball league until they won that league and moved back up. It gives teams a reason to win games throughout the entire season.

It doesn't even end there.

Since soccer, and cricket, are the two most popular sports in these other countries, they are scrutinized to a level Americans can't fathom.

Imagine talking with colleagues about a pick and roll play that happened with 9:30 left to go in the 2nd quarter of the Sonics/Clippers game in the middle of the season. You wouldn't. Our society has become a box score society whereas we just read the highlights and act like we know something.

When was the last time you watch an entire game of 2 teams that weren't your local teams? you can't because it would bore you.

Maybe I'll split this into 2 parts, so I'll end this here.
