Aaron and BMer talk about the Suspensions

so today, Commissioner David Stern of the NBA was on the Dan Patrick Show talking about the suspensions that were handed down to Robert Horry, Amare Stoudemire, and Boris Diaw.

Here's the recap: Late in game 4, the Suns were up and the Spurs needed to foul. Robert Horry hip checks Steve Nash into the scorers table which in turn fires up the Suns and a little "get together" takes place. When all is said and done Horry is ejected and the Suns win to tie the series at 2-2.

Today the NBA suspended Robert Horry 2 games for his flagrant foul and Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw both drew 1 game suspensions for leaving the bench area. Tonite is game 5 in Phoenix.

Here's the clip of the play in question

Here an email conversation i had with Aaron during the radio interviews:

Aaron: dude,

Commissioner stern just gave it to Dan patrick pretty good. That was probably the most heated interview I've ever heard. And the funny thing is, . .I agree with the commish. (he was open to changing the rule next year). There was an obvious rule that had to be enforced. But, he and Dan go after it pretty good, it'll probably be on insider for a while, but we'll have to track it down somehow. :)

i'll have to get it when i get home, i've got my ways. i was just reading all about it. so lame. i hope the Suns overcome and win the next game, they can do it, but it'd have to be about playing angry and someone like Marion would totally have to step up.

Aaron: If you read the article "Amare: what about duncan?" they have some of it in there.

It got real heated.I agree that it's unfortunate, and I think the rule is stupid, but they'd be looked at as Jerks if they didn't enforce it now. The good news is, the suns are at home, and they can't lose the series tonight if they lose. So, they have two more shots after this one.

yea thats the article i read yea, this is why i wouldn't want to be commissioner. i haven't seen the whole tape so i don't know what Amare actually did, or Diaw for that matter, but it didn't sound malicious or crazy or anything..nobody from the Spurs bench got up? thats hard for me to believe, then again, they weren't the team being attacked.

i love how Dan keeps saying "commissioner...commissioner..."i like Stern's stance except at the end where Dan Patrick is talking about the aggressive team being rewarded. Basically Dan's stance is that, you can send in Francisco or some other scrub, have him punch Amare, and then the Suns will jump off the bench. In the end, Francisco would be suspended for the series, Amare would probably swing back - one game. And then everyone off the bench is out.

Spurs advantage right?

oh, and Dan keeps saying it was Mop-up duty time in the game. not true. The score was 100-97 with 20 seconds to go. thats not garbage time, not at all.

Aaron: Yeah. . . And don't even try to tell me that horry or popovich were thuggin'. . . . That's stupid. It was a heat of the moment thing, Horry was mad that they were going to lose. The commish won that one. But, they should change the rule (as he said)

did you hear D'Antoni's interview with Dan? pretty interesting. just like i said earlier - they can beat the spurs anyway. its all mental tonite! if i was the spurs i'd be a little scared in the sense that the suns have the emotional advantage not to mention its win-win for the Suns. Either they win the game or if they lose, they blame it on the suspensions.

Dan Patrick wants seatbelts on the bench. i think the Suns should do that, seriously. how else would you get the fans totally behind you, mock the rule, and screw with the Spurs heads.

Aaron: That's hilarious. Patrick won't admit he doesn't have a case.

I just want to see J. Rose drop like 35 on their heads tonight. Patburke too.

Dangit if this was last year, Skita would've played.

You gotta feel pretty dumb if you're San Antonio and you squeek by the Suns sans Diaw and Stoudemire
