The Dick: Colorado Rapids New Home

many of you have heard, but have not seen

The Colorado Rapids of MLS have gotten a makeover this year that included new jersey's, new logos, new sponsors, new partners, new players, and most of all, a new home.

Dicks Sporting Goods Park

The biggest soccer complex in North America, and the biggest soccer only venue in the MLS!

Last night my good friend Nuccio and i checked it out, and well, it lived up to the hype.

On last minutes notice i was able to convince one of my soccer buddies to catch the Rapids vs Wizards game, i needed some good soccer mojo since my beloved Red Devils of Manchester decided to lay yet another egg in the FA Cup final, more on that later.

This Park is beautiful. First i roll up to find parking, which was long lines, but plenty of help to get you where you needed to go. From the parking lot i could see the huge jumbotron and as i walked the quarter-mile distance to the park i could actually watch the game.

i was surprise by the amount of people there, it was packed, especially for a regular game against the Kansas City Wizards who's biggest star is Eddie Johnson.

Met up with Nuccio and got the tickets, $22 corner flag seats row 6, and headed in. Amazing. You can see the field from anywhere on the concourse. It's huge, green, the stands were packed, it felt like soccer.

especially since the Rapids have been playing at Mile High and well, Rapids' fan couldn't even get close to filling enough seats to make any noise. But this game was close to 80% full.

Our seats were great, probably less than 15 yards from the actual field, you could Pablo Mastroeni talking trash to Eddie Johnson all game!

everything was awesome, i'm totally sold, even parking was included in the ticket price, which saves a lot of time getting into the park.

The downside: beer was $6 a pop. ouch. especially since when the Rapids were at Mile High and they did everything they could to get people to go, including, during a Western Conference Playoff game against the LA Galaxy (Landon Donovan, Cobi Jones) they had like $1 beer night for 2 hours before the game in a tent out front. $1 beers, $1 dogs, $1 hamburgers. In a tent with a bunch of fans. That was a great night!

that won't happen again though, they're getting the fans to the park, and now they've gotta cover the costs.

Anyway, if you're in Denver, you gotta check this place out, it was a blast!

Kass and I got tickets the the MLS All Star game vs Glasgow Celtic FC, so that'll be great too.

Hit me up and we'll catch a game!
