So i think Bill Simmons from ESPN sums up my feelings on the Kings draft yesterday
"5:32: Looking disturbingly like Chris Mihm, Spencer Hawes goes 10th to the Kings. Now they have a young center who can't rebound or protect the rim, an aging center (Brad Miller) who can't rebound or protect the rim, a guy who started the biggest melee in NBA history (Ron Artest), the coach from "Hang Time" (Reggie Theus), tons of bad contracts, and owners (the Maloofs) who've made more reality-TV show appearances than every other NBA owner combined. What a mess. O.J. Mayo should just buy a house in Sacramento now and get it over with."
This better be a whole new team come opening night.

King of the Farmland
If you thought it was weird having Arnold in Sactown, now we got Reggie Theus.
A few people have asked me what i think about the new Kings coach, and so i thought i'd put it all down here.
not impressed
Lets backtrack a little bit. I wasn't impressed with the firing of Rick Adleman. I think that was a terrible move. The Kings sucked before him, went to the playoffs every year with him including the Western Conference Finals and then fired him.
And the first year without him we don't make the playoffs, in a year that the draft is full of crap.
Musselman was a terrible hire, he never proved anything in Golden State.
and now we have Theus.
Why don't i like Theus? Well, its nothing against Reggie as much as i liked other options. From the news reports it sounded like it was coming down between Scott Brooks and Terry Porter with Bill Cartwright, Stan Van Gundy and a few others thrown into the mix. At this point i'm rooting for Scott Brooks. I saw him coach out here in Denver, and i think he's a true coach. I'm not a fan of these young ex-players becoming coach, and hold your "Avery Johnson" talk for someone else (see Micheal Cooper, Isaiah Thomas, Larry Bird, McHale....)
But then out comes the reports that Larry Brown wants the Sac job.
First of all, i'm not a Larry Brown fan but let me explain why i think this would have fit in Sacramento. After Larry was successful with the Pistons, he took a lucrative contract to coach in New York, the worst team in the brightest spotlight. He had no leash, no time to adjust, and no time to lose games. Eventually he was let go.
Sacramento is the place where bad apples go to get away from the spotlight, re-calibrate and get back to their old successful ways (CWebb, JWill, Artest, Bonzi, Keon Clark, Brad Miller...) If Larry Browns comes to Sactown, no one on the East Coast including all the NY Media and ESPN would care to stay up late to see the games. in fact, i doubt they'd even read about it the next day in the paper. Meanwhile, without the pressure and lack of a superstar, Larry Brown begins to mold the Kings into what the Pistons were, boring but successful basketball.
But no, we break the mold and get Reggie Theus. why? what has he done?
I called my pops yesterday, a week after the signing of Theus and asked him what the people were saying in Sactown about it.
Nothing
no one is talking about it because there isn't anything to talk about. this team is headed downhill fast. Meanwhile, watch out for Houston, i heard their new coach is pretty good!

Cuban's Colonoscopy
So if you haven't noticed, i've listed a few interesting Athlete Blogs on the rights side of this page including Barry Bonds, Curt Schilling, Gilbert Arenas, Mark Cuban and some others. If you haven't checked these out you're totally missing some great info like Cuban's inside scoop on his colonoscopy or Curt Schillings' recap of what happened the other night when he took a no-hitter into the 9th inning with 2 outs (Hint: he shook off the sign).
"Now comes the infamous ‘shake’. In talking with Tek after the game it’s clear to me that he was 100% spot on with his thought, and I was completely wrong with mine. Why would he take a strike at this point? I had gone to 1 three ball count all day. I wasn’t going to walk him and the only thing you do at that point, by taking a strike, is allow me freedom to use my split. There was no way in hell he was taking. I was sure otherwise. So I shake off the slider, execute the pitch I want, and he lines it to right.
There was about 1.5 seconds of disappointment there on my end. It would have been damn cool, hell it would have been awesome, to throw the no-no."

How Bad is the East?
Man, i just realized today that if you're an Eastern Conference team and you're watching the Cavs represent you, how bad do you have to feel?
Seriously, all of the big names in the East are home, Pierce, O'Neal, O'Neal, Wade, Billups, BGordan, Kidd, Bosh, Andre Miller...
Are the Cavs really the best team over there? ouch. How many Western Conference teams could beat the Cavs? Spurs, Suns, Mavs, Nuggets, Jazz, Kings....

Internationals in MLS
So i have a conversation yesterday with a friend of mine, and he asked me what the effect of David Beckham will have on the MLS. I told him that there are already a lot of international players, just not international stars. These players mainly come from lesser powers in the soccer world, Panama, Colombia, Canada. I guessed that the league is already 60% Americans.
anyway, i checked this morning's rumor column and i thought people might be interested, along with Beckham, there are some really big names being linked to MLS:
David Beckham could be reunited with former Real Madrid team-mate Luis Figo at LA Galaxy after the Portuguese star was released by Inter Milan. (Sunday Express)
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has had talks with LA Galaxy. (News of the World)
Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele could be poised for a move to American side Houston Dynamo. (The People)
this is just the beginning , these international starts might not come over in their prime, but they'll come over before they're done. As for the Rapids, well, we have one of the better players from Panama, Roberto Brown, Mexico with Hercules Gomez, and America with Pablo Mastroeni.
